Meet your Doula | A BIT ABOUT REBECCA
From as far back as I can remember I have been fascinated with newborns and childbirth. My grandmother, whom I was very close to, was a nurse in a hospital's maternity ward throughout my early childhood. I loved listening to her stories about new babies and new motherhood, and after work she'd often bring home teeny diapers and swaddles for my dolls. I cherished those times with her and it was then, at such a young age, she helped me realize what I wanted to do in life. After that I remember going to visit her wanting, so badly, to hold all the babies in that maternity ward - So wherever I was... if there was a baby, I was holding it! A few years later I began babysitting when I was 10.
In 2002, I had the privilege of being on the support team for a dear friend and his wife during the birth of their second child. Less than a year after that, I attended the birth of my nephew. Those experiences, along with the births of my four children, ignited a passion within me that led me to becoming a Doula.
Before my certification, I spent six years in the fitness industry, specializing in Group Exercise Instruction and Personal Training. In 2016, I was able to enter into professional Doula work through the help of a colleague. A year later, my professional training began and I immediately started attending births at a local Volunteer Doula Program.
In 2017, I received certification as a Certified Doula from DONA International, since then I've assisted in over 65 births and helped over 100 families through my service. As well as being the founder of New Life Doula Services LLC, I also provide doula services through the Western Connecticut Health Network at Danbury Hospital and volunteer at the Vidone Birthing Center at Yale New Haven Hospital.
It was clear from the start that becoming a Doula was my calling - I truly understand the joys and challenges of becoming a parent (whether it be your first or your fifth!) Through pregnancy, childbirth, and beyond, your journey as a parent is to be cherished and protected. The whole experience is profound and the first moments between parent and child have such an everlasting affect. It is my hope that you will walk away from your postpartum experience feeling empowered as you begin life with your new baby.
